David Shaffer, a native of Oakland, California, started David Shaffer Insurance Services in August, 1983. David Shaffer Insurance Services is an Independent Insurance Agency that specializes in providing insurance to the affluent California homeowner. Subject to underwriting guidelines, David Shaffer Insurance Services, although based in Walnut Creek, CA, can write personal insurance such as homeowners, automobile, residential earthquake, fine arts, jewelry, and personal umbrella coverage for qualifying policyholders anywhere in the State of California and in Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington.
David is frequently interviewd by Tom Vacar, Consumer Editor, for the FOX Channel 2 News on stories for auto, home or earthquake insurance. In addition, Eve Mitchell, a reporter for the Bay Area News Group also calls upon David to help her write articles about auto, home and earthquake insurance. David has also on behalf of his professional trade group, the Independent Agents and Brokers of the West, testified in Sacramento in front of the State Assembly and State Senate on legislation that effects home and earthquake insurance in California. David also helped to establish the insurance consumer group, United Policyholders back in 1991. United Policyholders continues to provide incredible help to policyholders nationwide under the executive leadership of Amy Bach, one of David's clients. David still contributes ideas and help to United Policyholders.
In approximately 1995, David Shaffer Insurance Services and other insurance offices in California were experiencing an unprecedented insurance crisis involving homeowners and earthquake insurance. Insurance carriers were refusing to insure homes and many even left the state and thousands upon thousands of policies were canceled. In order to survive the economic turbulence created by this situation, David Shaffer made the strategic decision to expand his expertise and services for his clients to include residential real estate financing and in so doing has changed the name of the business to David Shaffer Mortgage and Insurance Services. However, now due to changes in the banking industry, I have had to get rid of the "Mortgage" part in my insurance agency name completely. All my loans are processed through CMG Mortgage, Inc. headquartered in San Ramon, CA where I am a licensed mortgage loan originator.
David and his family are also Guide Dogs for the Blind puppy raisers! Their first guide dog puppy, Nolan, is currently in the last phase(as of November 1, 2009) of his professional training at the campus for Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, CA. Below is a picture of Nolan and David on August 15, 2009, at Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, CA.
